“Good things come to those who wait”
With the end of 2022, welcome to 2023. Here is a short note on what we have been up to this past season.
The hunting started early this year with me traveling for a month to hunt in Northern Cameroon with Patrick, the owner of one of the blocks.
First up was Mike from Washington State in the US. Mike has hunted a bunch both in the US and Africa, and he was no slouch when it came to both walking and shooting, doing some hard miles for both the Lord Derby and Elephant. Well done, Mike!
Next in Cameroon was Chris, a good chap from Texas, taking a bunch of animals with a Buffalo and Roan on the same morning - quite a feat. The Civet and Red River Hog eluded us, but there is always next time, Chris. Look forward to visiting you and seeing the Ranch.
Red-Flanked Duiker and Roan with Chris.
That was the end of February, now it was onto Uganda to meet the Karamoja Gang, ably led by Michael and his team of ex-military men, Tim, Jeremy and Robert. PH’s were Ade Langely, Gareth Lecluse, Darren Ellerman and me.
What a great time had by all, some great animals, and even better stories!!!!
But none better than than the poacher-wounded Buffalo in the riverbed, despatched by Jeremy and Robert, much to the delight of the huge audience gathered to be witnesses and meat recipients!!!

Next it was back to Zimbabwe for the rest of the season, starting with the Russian lads, Artim, Andrey and Kosta, for Buffalo and plains game. Bush was thick, but had a great time, and the odd Jack Daniels, especially as they were Jumbo Moore’s hunters.
Tick tock goes the clock, and this brought us May with Hunters, Justyna and Darek from Poland, and my good PH friend Graham Mayger on the quest for the elusive Leopard. Anyway, luck was on our side and after a few days of baiting, a huge and very old Tom was taken on the first night in the blind.
With the pressure off it gave us a plenty of time to enjoy the bush, hunt a few plains game animals and have great fun shooting birds.
Next it was the boys from Louisiana, and did we have some laughs - Andrew, Charlie and Paul, hunting with Brent, Rob and me.
Buffalo and Nyala where the main species we were after plus any other plains game we came across.
Andrew made a brilliant shot across a dry riverbed to take a beautiful Nyala, and after many days hot on the tracks of Dagga boys got a wonderful old Bull. And the icing on the cake was a beautiful Eland Bull on the last day.
August brought the Spaniards,
Francisco, Angel, CK and Alex, with most things on the bag. Hunting with Matt and me, and a bunch of helpers, we hunted everything from Elephant to Klipspringer and all in between. Hard work which paid off in the end.
Last but not least, the father and two sons from San Antonio Texas, good old Southern boys: Rex, Nolan and Matt, with PH’s Brent, Nigel and me.
We had a blast, guys, and look forward to repeating it down your way sometime.
And thus, we come to end of the season.
Varied country, varied game, and folks from all over the world.
What a privilege it has been to share time with you.
May our courses stay true, and our bullets find their mark.
Go well, my friends, ’til we meet again.
Aluta continua.
Best wishes for 2023
